West of Shenzhen, Window of the World Park brings together 130 miniature replicas of iconic monuments from around the globe across 480,000 m², welcoming visitors since 1993.

The Window of the World Park (Window of the World) gathers approximately 130 miniature reproductions of the world's most emblematic monuments and sites across 480,000 m² west of Shenzhen, at the foot of Overseas Mountain. Open to the public since 1993 and operated by the Overseas Chinese Town Holding Company, this theme park offers an architectural world tour condensed into a single day of exploration.

Why visit Window of the World Park

The concept is straightforward and effective: see in just a few hours faithful replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Egyptian pyramids, or Machu Picchu, created at scales ranging from 1:1 to 1:15. The park remains a classic family outing destination in Shenzhen, particularly suited for visitors traveling with children. The progression through five continents makes it pedagogically intuitive: geography and world history landmarks flow together along a well-marked route.

The appeal extends beyond mere models. Several reproductions feature animations or interactive activities, and a grand sound and light show marks the day's finale. It is also one of the most renowned attractions in southern Chine, directly accessible by metro from Shenzhen's city center.

Park history

The park opened its doors in 1993, at a time when Shenzhen was completing its transformation from a special economic zone into a major metropolis. It is owned by the Overseas Chinese Town Holding Company, a Chinese state-owned group specializing in cultural leisure, which operates several neighboring parks forming part of the same tourist complex west of the city.

Designed as a showcase of world heritage for Chinese audiences, it has accompanied Shenzhen's rise as a tourist destination and remains one of the most visited theme parks in Guangdong Province.

What to see and do

Replicas across five continents

The park features approximately 130 reproductions organized by major geographic areas:

  • Europe: Eiffel Tower (the park's tallest structure), Tower of Pisa, Roman Colosseum, Buckingham Palace.
  • Oceania: Sydney Opera House.
  • Asia: Taj Mahal, Forbidden City, temples of Angkor.
  • Africa: Egyptian pyramids and Sphinx.
  • Americas: Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty, Machu Picchu, Nazca geoglyphs.

The scales vary (1:1, 1:5, 1:15 depending on structures), allowing you to enter certain replicas while observing others from an elevated vantage point.

Complementary activities and attractions

Beyond the models, several animations are integrated throughout the park:

  • Indoor mini ski slope for a quick introduction to skiing.
  • Tropical forest crossing by cable car.
  • Navigation along a waterway evoking the Colorado, alongside the miniature Grand Canyon.
  • Archery initiation in the Native American zone.

The night show

In the evening, the park presents a spectacle combining fireworks, dance, and music, typically promoted as the visit's highlight. If you plan to attend, allow time to stay through the end of the evening.

When to visit

Shenzhen enjoys a subtropical climate: the most pleasant months fall between October and April, drier and less hot than the humid summer. The park also organizes several annual events that can enhance your visit:

  • Cherry Blossom Festival (spring).
  • Indian Culture Week.
  • International Beer Festival.
  • Pop Music Festival.

Conversely, Chinese National Day (early October) and Chinese New Year bring heavy crowds: avoid if you seek tranquility, but plan for it if you want to experience parades and festive atmosphere.

Practical information

Plan for a half-day to full day depending on your pace and whether you stay for the night show. The park is open daily for daytime and evening visits; precise opening hours and admission prices (park entry, potential surcharge for the night show, child and senior discounts) change regularly and should be verified on the official website before your visit.

Bring comfortable walking shoes: the route across 480,000 m² involves considerable walking.

How to get there

The park is very well served by Shenzhen's public transportation:

  • Metro: the Shijie Zhi Chuang station ("Window of the World"), served by lines 1 and 2, opens directly at the park entrance. Line 1 of Shenzhen's metro was inaugurated in late 2004.
  • Bus: numerous lines serving the Shijie Zhichuang stop, notably lines N4, 21, 26, 32, 54, 79, 90, 101, 113, 121, 123, 204, 209, 223, 234, 245.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing: a practical option from the railway station or Bao'an International Airport, with reasonable fares.

Nearby attractions

The park is part of the Overseas Chinese Town tourist complex, which groups several other theme parks. Beyond that, take advantage of your time in Shenzhen to explore shopping districts, waterfront areas, and green spaces throughout the metropolis. If you extend your stay in Chine, several heritage sites are worth visiting, such as the Great Wall at Juyongguan, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, or the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves in Xinjiang.
