Today
Dehang is a Miao village situated just over 70 km from Fenghuang. Nestled along the riverbank northwest of Jishou, Dehang offers almost otherworldly scenery with its karst peaks, waterfalls and vast countryside.
Recently renovated for tourism, the small town has retained its old-world charm and distinctly local Miao atmosphere.
Wander through narrow alleyways lined with wooden houses, follow the river's edge and cross small stone bridges to soak in the essence of the place. Evening brings charming nighttime performances by the Miao in their traditional costumes.
Beyond the pleasant village itself, the surrounding areas merit exploration. Its rural and poetic nature offers stunning hiking trails that will captivate travellers seeking green spaces. The Nine Dragons Stream scenic park, which extends along the waterway at the village's edge, promises an enjoyable walk to Pangu Peak via terraced fields and a small wooden bridge.
The Nine Dragons Waterfall trail leads to the magnificent Liusha Falls, which you can circle to admire the view from behind the water curtain. Other trails wind through the surrounding nature, offering fabulous panoramas of the gorges and terraced fields.
