After a gruelling week of work, the weekend is always the perfect excuse to explore the city. This time, we're heading to Tianhe District, located in the north-east of the city centre.

Citic Plaza

The Tianhe District has experienced particularly intense development since the 1980s and today represents one of Guangzhou's main business quarters.

Our primary objective was to observe the Citic Plaza, which ranks among the world's 15 tallest skyscrapers. Completed in 1997, it stands 391 metres tall and comprises 80 storeys. It houses offices as well as shops, which particularly captures Charlène's interest here...

The nearest metro station is Tianhe Sports Center Station, and as you exit, the view is genuinely impressive.

We're surrounded by skyscrapers, and one in particular catches our attention—none other than the Citic Plaza, undeniably dominating all others by its scale and striking appearance.

Given the late hour, most shops are unfortunately closed, but we still manage a glimpse of the ground floor.

Tianhe Stadium

We could say we'd chosen the perfect evening to visit Tianhe District, as there was a match on in Guangzhou! The Tianhe Stadium is a multipurpose stadium used for various sports, notably football. The excitement radiating from supporters was so palpable that we drew closer to gauge the atmosphere and compare it with Chine.

The match isn't quite finished, but crowds are genuinely gathered outside the stadium, and we're drawn towards a local field where some activities seem to be taking place. We ask a group of girls what's going on, and are soon surrounded by a swarm of children who've come for the occasion.

War of the buttons

We ultimately don't learn much more, but we'll hold onto this moment with a smile.

Where is Mireille Mathieu?

Time is pressing and we need to grab something to eat after this whirlwind district tour. We opt for a German restaurant, the Wunderbar Bavarian Bar & Grill, which is a welcome respite for our taste buds after several weeks of rice and chicken!
